Kids Sleeping Bag Guide: Size, Season and Sleepovers

A kids' sleeping bag usually gets used more at sleepovers and on the living room floor than in a tent. So the best one is one a child can manage on their own and that goes in the washing machine, as long as it's warm enough for the camping trips you actually take.
1. Size it to your child
A bag that's much too long leaves cold air at the feet for a small body to heat. A bag that's too short is uncomfortable within a year.
Bags are sized by the tallest child they fit. The OGERY Kids 3-Season Sleeping Bag fits children up to 4 ft 7 in (1.4 m). Measure your child, and if you want more than a season or two out of the bag, leave a few inches of growing room.
2. Match the season

| Bag | Good for | Not for |
|---|---|---|
| Three-season | Spring to autumn camping, backyard tents, sleepovers, travel | Winter camping or frosty nights |
| Winter-rated | Cold-weather trips | Warm bedrooms, where kids overheat |
OGERY's bag is a three-season, warm-weather bag. Inside is a cotton flannel lining over hollow fiber fill, in a breathable polyester shell that helps kids avoid overheating indoors. It isn't built for winter camping.
On cool nights, warmth comes from more than the bag: a hat, dry socks and a pad underneath matter as much.
3. Check the zippers
Small hands fight stiff zippers, and a snagged zipper at bedtime ends badly. Look for:
- Anti-snag zippers. OGERY's main zippers are two-way and anti-snag, reinforced so fabric doesn't catch in the teeth.
- A foot zipper. OGERY's bag has one at the bottom. Close it on a chilly night in the tent, open it to let feet breathe when the room is warm.
4. Make packing easy
If a child can roll and pack their own bag, they will. A tight stuff sack makes that a parent's job. OGERY's bag rolls into an oversized carry bag with adjustable straps, with room to spare.
5. Plan for washing
Spills, muddy shoes, the dog. A kids' bag needs to be washable. The OGERY bag is machine washable and made to keep its shape and softness through repeated washes, and the outer fabric resists stains. After a damp night, open the foot zipper and let the bag air out completely before rolling it up.
What goes under it
On a tent floor, a sleeping bag alone isn't enough: the ground pulls heat out through the bottom and every root shows. Put a pad underneath. The slim Foam Camping Mattress rolls up small for the car, and our sleeping pad comparison covers the thicker options.
Quick checklist
- Child's height fits under the bag's limit, with growing room
- Three-season for most families, winter-rated only for cold trips
- Anti-snag zippers and a foot zipper
- Machine washable
- A pad for any night on the ground
The bag is in Kids Sleeping Bags, and the rest of the range is in the OGERY review.
